Useful Basements
Sometimes, our basements become little more than junk repositories. Because of their unfinished nature, we don’t usually invest the same kind of time and resources into organizing them. Here, we’ve invested a small amount in lumber and built a custom tool shelf that holds power tools, nails, screws, bins of miscellaneous hardware, and more, creating an organized and labeled set of resources that are within easy reach of the tool bench and miter saw table. We’ve also built out custom storage shelves that can hold 15 storage bins each or a collection of long lumber and trim.

Framed out tool shelf. It's built with a strong 2X4 frame to allow for heavy tools. Those boxes of framing nails are incredibly heavy!

Flexible shelving like this can be used with or without wheels. It fits long pieces of trim, random lumber, and up to 15 standard sized storage bins.
In this photo, the units are shown with wheels. When wheels are added, they can be stacked directly side by side, as they can then be moved easily when it's necessary to gain access to the back shelf.
We use three of these in our basement for storage bins and one of them for storing full 2x4s, trim pieces, spare lumber, etc.

We actually fit more than 15 bins on each of ours because we're able to stack two bins on the top shelf.
